Water Gurl

What I am doing here? It’s too hot! I can’t bear it. Why should I do that?
These are sarcastic sentences blurted out from my mind. I never uttered these sentences because they are not good to hear. Instead, I reversed it. What’s my mind says, my heart do the reverse.

It was Wednesday, September 9 at 2:30 p.m.; I was in the Boulevard together with the Bonok Bonok dancers. (Hey, I was not one of the dancers). I tried to help my principal in supervising the dancers. Actually, I was not alone in helping my principal. There were other volunteers who did the same thing like what I did. In fact, I played the (vital) role on that day, I was the water girl. I carried ice water with my right hand placed in big cellophane and the left hand holding the slippers worn out by the dancers. The first part of the festival was the street dancing. I heard some people calling out my name. They were the people whom I worked with in the community. I smiled at them. They knew what I did in the street. But of course I didn’t feel ashamed.

It was very worthy being a water girl (hehe girl is not appropriate term to describe me. My age does not belong to the bracket of the so called girl) on that day because the contingent I supervised with brought home the bacon. And they got the three major awards out of four. Congrats to the contingent no.5, represented by SWCES!

What I realized that day was, helping in a little ways give a huge happiness to others. Doing small things yet good, make a big difference.
